Embarking on the Quantum of the Seas was an experience filled with excitement and anticipation. As avid travellers, my wife and I were eager to explore the luxurious amenities and diverse activities this magnificent ship had to offer. This review aims to provide an in-depth look at our journey, highlighting the exceptional service, delightful dining experiences, and unforgettable moments we shared on board. Whether you're a solo traveller, a couple, or simply someone who loves to travel, this review will give you a comprehensive understanding of what to expect on the Quantum of the Seas.

General Overview

The Quantum of the Seas, a marvel in the world of cruising, offers a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. With its state-of-the-art facilities and a plethora of activities, it caters to a wide range of travellers. Our cruise took place from March 15 to March 22, 2024, spanning seven nights of pure bliss. This review is particularly aimed at solo travellers, couples, and travel enthusiasts who are keen to discover the joys of cruising.

Our journey began and ended at the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal, with a fascinating itinerary that included several days at sea, a visit to the enchanting Mystery Island in Vanuatu, and a stop at the picturesque New Caledonia. Each day brought new experiences and opportunities to unwind and enjoy the serene beauty of the ocean.

Itinerary and Destinations

Our seven-night adventure on the Quantum of the Seas was meticulously planned to provide a mix of relaxation and exploration. Here’s a detailed look at our itinerary:

  • Day 1: Port Brisbane

  • We embarked on our journey from the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal. The excitement was palpable as we boarded the ship and settled into our cabin.

  • Day 2: At Sea

  • Our first day at sea allowed us to explore the ship and its many amenities. We spent time relaxing by the pool, indulging in delicious meals, and participating in various onboard activities.

  • Day 3: At Sea

  • Another day at sea gave us the chance to fully immerse ourselves in the ship's offerings. We enjoyed the Ripcord by iFly, tried rock climbing, and attended some of the fantastic shows on board.

  • Day 4: Mystery Island, Vanuatu

  • Arriving at Mystery Island was like stepping into a tropical paradise. We spent the day exploring the island, swimming in the crystal-clear waters, and relaxing on the beach.

  • Day 5: New Caledonia

  • Our visit to New Caledonia was a highlight of the trip. We took a shuttle to the ferry terminal and organized a local tour to explore the island’s stunning landscapes and cultural sites.

  • Day 6: At Sea

  • Another relaxing day at sea allowed us to unwind and enjoy the ship's amenities. We made use of the spa and fitness centre and soaked up the sun on the deck.

  • Day 7: At Sea

  • Our final day at sea was spent reflecting on the amazing experiences we had. We enjoyed the last of the ship’s entertainment and savoured our favourite dining options.

  • Day 8: Return to Port Brisbane

  • Disembarkation at the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal was smooth and well-organized, marking the end of a truly memorable cruise.

Embarkation and Disembarkation

The process of getting on and off the ship was impressively efficient. We embarked at the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal, where the staff demonstrated a high level of professionalism and efficiency. Despite the terminal's somewhat inconvenient location, the process itself was seamless. Due to the lack of available parking, we opted to take a train followed by an Uber to the terminal, which cost about $30 each way. This minor inconvenience was quickly forgotten as we boarded the magnificent ship.

Disembarkation was equally well handled. The crew ensured that all guests could leave the ship smoothly and without any hassle, making for a stress-free end to our journey.

Cabin Experience

Our cabin, a balcony stateroom, was nothing short of spectacular. The ability to open the balcony door each morning, listen to the soothing sound of the ocean, and watch the sunrise from the comfort of our bed was a daily highlight. The room itself was spacious, impeccably clean, and well-equipped with all the amenities we needed for a comfortable stay. From the plush bedding to the ample storage space, every detail was designed for maximum comfort and convenience.

Dining Experiences

Dining on the Quantum of the Seas was a culinary delight. We had the pleasure of experiencing a variety of dining options, each offering a unique and satisfying experience.

Main Dining Room
  • Main Dining Room: Our main dining experience was exceptional, thanks in large part to our waiters, Ashish and Igusti. Their attentive service and friendly demeanour made every meal special. They remembered our names and preferences, creating a personalized dining experience that rivalled that of a seven-star restaurant.

  • Windjammer Buffet: We frequently dined at the Windjammer Buffet, where the variety and quality of food were impressive. From breakfast to dinner, the buffet offered a wide range of delicious options, and it wasn’t uncommon for us to enjoy three to four plates per meal.

  • Dog House: We visited the Dog House once and enjoyed the casual dining experience. It was a great spot for a quick and tasty snack.

  • Café Promenade: This became one of our favourite spots for indulgence. The sweets and sandwiches were consistently delicious, making it a perfect place for a mid-day treat or late-night snack.

Special mention goes to the free ice cream available on the ship, which was a delightful treat that we enjoyed frequently.

Activities and Entertainment

The Quantum of the Seas offers a wealth of activities and entertainment options to suit every interest. We took full advantage of the onboard offerings and had an incredible time.

  • Ripcord by iFly: This indoor skydiving experience was a standout activity. It provided an exhilarating rush and a unique way to enjoy the cruise.

  • Rock Climbing: We challenged ourselves on the rock climbing wall, which was both fun and physically rewarding.

  • Bumper Cars: A nostalgic and entertaining activity that brought out our inner children.

  • Shows: We particularly enjoyed the "Sequins & Feathers" show, which was a dazzling display of talent and creativity. The entertainment on board was consistently high-quality and varied, ensuring there was always something to look forward to.

Service and Staff

The service on the Quantum of the Seas was exemplary. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that every guest had an unforgettable experience. Our room attendant, Gede (pronounced "G’day"), was friendly and attentive, always ready to assist with a smile. We also enjoyed our interactions with Pradevi at the Windjammer, who made us feel welcome every time we dined there.

The "Washy Washy" staff, including Jaycel, Lucky, Ilias, and Happy, added a fun and memorable element to each mealtime with their cheerful reminders to sanitize our hands. Their enthusiasm and positivity were infectious, contributing to the overall joyful atmosphere on board.

Amenities and Public Spaces

We made good use of the ship's amenities, particularly the spas and fitness centre. The spa provided a tranquil retreat, while the fitness centre was well-equipped and never felt overcrowded.

The sun deck was another favourite spot, offering a perfect place to relax and soak up the sun. The public spaces on the ship, including lounges, pools, and decks, were well-maintained and inviting. Guests were generally considerate, and the staff worked tirelessly to keep everything clean and orderly.

Excursions and Shore Experiences

We opted for self-organized excursions at each port of call, which allowed us to explore at our own pace and discover hidden gems.

  • Mystery Island, Vanuatu: We took a leisurely lap around the island, finding a secluded beach to swim and relax for the day. The island's natural beauty and serene environment made for a perfect day of exploration and relaxation.

  • New Caledonia: After being shuttled to the ferry terminal, we arranged a tour with a local guide who showed us the island's stunning landscapes and cultural sites. This personalized tour provided a deeper insight into the island's history and beauty.

Overall Experience and Highlights

The highlight of our cruise was undoubtedly the quality time spent together, disconnected from the internet and free from the distractions of daily life. This cruise was a celebration of our recent marriage, and it provided the perfect setting for us to relax, reconnect, and enjoy each other's company. We indulged in delicious food, engaged in exciting activities, and created lasting memories without the need for alcohol or constant connectivity.
